“Put him in the exersaucer”

Basically, Big T wanted us to confine Little T so that Little T would not mess with his trains.

That’s just not right…

I mean, there’s nothing wrong with the exersaucer, and we do use it on ocassion. In fact, sometimes Little T himself will go stand up against it and play with the toys, so we just put him in it. But Big T suggesting that Little T should go in it just for his own convenience is a little…diabolical.

Little T took his first step on Saturday evening. Pretty soon he’ll be walking for real, and then Big T will be in real trouble. Little T is also sprouting another tooth. Just milestones all over the place.

Speaking of milestones, I recently reached one at work, and I am really excited that things are going so well 🙂

Today is one of those days when I feel like I’m doing the whole wife, mom, phd thing well. I’m really doing it. I know days will come when I won’t feel so accomplished. I had better bask in the glow today.

“M, M…that spells M&Ms!”

Big T is very much into spelling everything. Last night he got a treat for being a good listener. One guess as to what the treat was…

( Hey, positive reinforcement works, and if it has to be candy, so be it.)

Anyway, here are some of his other favorite words to spell:

We have only watched the movie Cars a least six hundred times. Aaaaand it was made by Disney/Pixar. Aaaaand we have watched it (as well as other movies) on HBO. Hence all the spelling words.

We have a TV and we watch it a lot. Sue me.

Anyway…we now have about 10 of the cars, and Big T just got a cool Mack truck play hut. It’s big enough for 2 children to play in, and it folds down easily.

Little T is not allowed to play in it, touch it, look at it, or even breathe in its general direction. I did not think I would have to break up fights so soon. Little T is still a baby. A really fiesty baby, but a baby nonetheless. Interestingly enough, he holds his own quite well against his brother. It’s insane I tell you.

(Just in case it’s not immediately obvious, there are 3 great parenting gems in today’s post – candy eating, TV watching and siblings fighting.)

“say da-da”

It was too cute. Big T was teaching Little T the fundamentals of language and communication. Big T had his arm around his baby brother, and tried to get him to say “da-da”. Little T just smiled and drooled. It really was such a sweet scene. My children, interacting with one another and there was no crying or yelling.

Work this week is going to be challenging, seeing as I am in holiday mode already. God help me!

I am listening to old school Christmas music on pandora ( while I work. You know, Bing Crosby, Nat King Cole, Perry Como, Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald… LOVE IT!!  This is totally making the boring job of updating  my lab notebook  a lot more bearable. I much would rather start new experiments, but  a) short work week…how much can I really accomplish experiment-wise and   b) I have to be responsible about keeping a good lab notebook. I don’t want to be one of those cautionary tales of how not to keep a lab notebook…

*pausing here to pat myself on the back for being such a good, organized scientist*

Speaking of lab notebooks, I came across this site from Swathmore College with advice/tips on how to keep a good lab notebook. some good advice there. I especially like the side-by-side testing of different pens. Someone actually took the time to do all that. And I think it’s kinda cool.

So there ya go…3 random thoughts in one blog post.

“Turn your voice down”

I am not proud of this particular parenting habit, but tonight it was totally justified. Big T (my pre-schooler) ran away from me in the parking lot of their school. In a parking lot. In the dark. And it was raining too. My frantic yelling made him cry. And then he told me to turn my voice down.

At dinner, Big T picked all the peas and carrots out of his food and put them on Little T’s tray. He tried to do it on the sly but I caught him. I think Little T ate them. At least somebody ate veggies tonight.

It has been a whiny evening. I can’t wait for bedtime.

“It made Ms.M Happy”

My son’s teacher was happy with him  and praised him because he dressed himself. You may wonder why he had to dress himself at school…well he “pee-peed on himself”. If Ms M can find the silver lining in my boy’s pee accident, I guess so can I.

Spending the evening with my boys last night was kind of fun – no major freak-outs. Except for my three year-old telling the baby to “get out” of his toys…And the baby kept coming back. He is persistent, that little one. I had to separate them before it came to shoving and crying. Ah boys 🙂

My husband went to Target last night which is why I was home alone with the kids. Upon returning home, he says “I can see the appeal. I get how you can spend so much time there”. uhhh….yeah! Target is awesome!!! He got his item on sale AND got a gift card. SCORE! (the score is for me, since I’ll be using the gift card)

Oh yeah, before I forget…Cyber Monday was so fun! I learned something new yesterday – EBATES!!!!!! You get cash back for shopping online through the site. Try it!! I will probably be doing most of my christmas shopping online through ebates, and come February 15, 2010…cha-ching! cash money in my mailbox!!!

Finally, and perhaps most importantly, today is world AIDS day. Over 30 million people worldwide are living with and dying from HIV/AIDS. Please support research efforts, support AIDS orphanages and charities, and support those you might know that may be infected.
